The past month has gone by so fast! First of all, at my 16 week check up we had a surprise ultrasound and found out the sex of the baby! My parents happened to fly into town (to go skiing) the morning of my appointment and were able to come with. I thought it would just be neat for them to get to hear the baby's heartbeat, but after we told our AMAZING doctor they were just in town for a couple days he said, "So you won't be here for the ultrasound next month?" We said no and he said, "well that just wont do!" and whisked us into the other room and we got to see our baby! Plus since he knew our insurance only covered one ultrasound, the practice ate the expense- woohoo! It was so neat to get to see the baby, positively surreal. This is getting hard to write without saying the gender (and most of you already know) so... we are having a girl! I wasn't surprised at all, I knew she would be a girl. McBride women only know how to produce girls (except for the freak occurrence of my nephew of course (seriously, 7 girls 1 boy!) During the ultrasound she was chewing on her hand, not just sucking her thumb, but absolutely gnawing on her hand! It was hilarious and adorable, I like to think she already has a ton of personality. :)
I'm now just over 20 weeks and doing great! We had our real 20 week ultrasounds on Wednesday and everything is perfect. I had no idea how detailed these ultrasounds were! We saw each chamber of the heart, each side of the brain and all sorts of other body parts I can't pronounce! The only out-of-the-ordinary things were that she is breech, which isn't a big deal because she has another 20 weeks to flip over, and that the placenta is anterior, which means it is in front of her instead of behind her. Again, this isn't a big deal apparently- the only minor stinky thing is that the placenta is padding her kicks and I can't feel them yet, but I will in a few weeks when she is stronger.
Here is the belly...
The first is at 14 or 15 weeks... can't really remember...
and the second is at 20 weeks
It is hard to believe this pregnancy is already half way through! Next step: find adorable crib bedding!
